INSTRUCTIONS: Have fun!

Make a Simple Princess Costume Facts:

All little girls want to be a princess, if only for a little while. Luckily, princess outfits are one of the easier costumes to make at home. They're also a really fun costume to put together, since there is so much freedom to use sparkly and colorful accent decorations. Mommies and daughters can have a ball collaborating on princess costumes or, if time is of the essence, moms can throw this little number together by themselves in minutes.

There are two basic components to the princess costume. The headpiece and dress are the main ingredients needed, but remember: it's usually best to attack this project one piece at a time.

There are two choices of headpieces that define a princess costume. Either the cone cap with flowing train or a lovely little crown are the usual options. It is best to consult the little princess herself on her preference, since she will be wearing it. If her majesty prefers the cone cap, here are the basic instructions:

Materials:
- One large sheet of colored cardboard
- Long strings of satin ribbon or flowing material pieces for the top of the cap
- Varying pieces of colored felt
- Scissors
- Glue
- Any desired jewel or glitter supplies
- Stapler

STEP 1
Take your long piece of cardboard and roll it into the shape of the hat. Hold it in place while you fit in on your little princess’s head. Secure by stapling the bottom together.

STEP 2
Design the base of the hat by stapling the colored felt pieces into any design you like. Feel free to use all your creative ideas for making this a truly royal hat.

STEP 3
Simply tie the material or the ribbons around the top of the cone and glue into place.

Now let’s tackle the dress.

The best idea is to use a long sleeve ballet leotard as the top. Such a leotard usually comes in princess-like colors like powder blue or pale pink and this will allow you to simply glue or stitch on a skirt. Using the leotard as the base, glue or stitch on various pieces of floaty material that is long enough to reach your daughter’s feet. Use a wide ribbon to cover up the seam/glue mark and finish with a big bow in the back. Again, feel free to add colorful and dazzling trim to the skirt as well as other accent marks on the top. This will make the princess dress feel truly princess-y and special.
