Nash Metropolitan Facts The Metropolitan was designed and engineered by Nash (later merged with Hudson into American Motors) in 1950. The Metropolitan was built by Fisher & Ludlow Ltd. of Birmingham England. Two body styles were produced: a 2-door hardtop and a 2-door convertible. The engine was a 1500cc, 4-cylinder Austin A-30 manufactured by Austin Compny, Longbridge England. This was the same engine as in the original Austin Healey and MGB. The exterior of all models featured a two-tone paint job. The "Met" was manufactured from 1954 to 1962. The car was built for American tastes and all of the 94,986 produced were sold in the U.S. and Canada. This was the first time in automotive history that a car was designed in America and built in another country, England, for resale solely in the United States and Canada. |
